10 Attributes of God

Have you ever wondered what God is like? How did He manage to breathe life into every living thing on the planet? God is a perfect entity who is greater than anything or anyone, yet He chooses to love flawed beings like you and me. His love for us is so great that He sacrificed His own Son to save us.To truly know what He is capable of, we must first comprehend the attributes of God.

The Bible describes God in great detail and constantly reminds us of His faithfulness and the promises He has made to His people. We can learn more about God’s character by considering the attributes that He possesses. Our God is an amazing God and here’s why:

God is Love

“But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” Psalm 86:15

Simply put, God is love. He’s not just loving; He is love itself. He cherishes us beyond our capacity to fathom, and His love for us is unending and unconditional no matter who we are. In reality, He seeks an intimate connection with you. However unlovable you may feel, God’s love for you is unwavering. He seeks us out, pursues us, calls us by name, and sacrifices His one and only Son so that we may be purified and set free from our sins.

God Knows Everything

“Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.” Psalm 147:5

We can put no limits on His wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. It’s safe to say that God knows everything there is to know. God is completely aware of everything that has ever happened and will happen. All knowledge originates from God. Everything that could happen already has happened in God’s eyes. God is omniscient, meaning He is aware of our ideas even before we have them. The depth of God’s understanding is beyond human comprehension.

God is Almighty

“And looking at them, Jesus said to them, “With people, this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

God is omnipotent. He Himself is boundless in strength, wisdom, love, holiness, and the power to carry out His sovereign will. At His command, countless galaxies emerge, each housing countless billions of stars. To put it simply, our troubles cannot compare to God. So whenever you encounter adversities, don’t be afraid and be secure, knowing that the God who created the universe is with you. He can make the impossible possible.

God is Everywhere

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10

Being omnipresent is just one of the many attributes of God. It means that He is present in all locations and at all times. While God is on His throne in Heaven, He is also present everywhere. He sees our pain and understands our predicament. Even when no one else does, He understands what we’re going through. You may feel alone in this world at times, but God assures you, “I am with you.”

God is Eternal

“Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.” Psalm 90:2

God is eternal, having no beginning or end. There was never a period when God did not exist, and there will never be a time when God does not exist. God is, by nature, unchanging. As a result, the attributes of God before the creation of the world are the same ones He has today.

God is Holy

“There is none holy like the Lord; there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.” 1 Samuel 2:2

Every interaction God has with man mentions His holiness. God’s holiness and light shine brightly in a dark world. He calls us to follow in His footsteps, to strive to be as holy as He is. “God is holy,” writes Henry C. Thiessen, “because He is completely apart from and exalted above all His creatures and creation, and He is completely separate from all moral evil and sin.

God is Righteous

“The LORD is righteous in all His ways and faithful in all he does.” Psalm 145:17

Righteousness is the clearest manifestation of God’s holiness. In a world when everything is in a constant state of change, He remains true to His word. In other words, we can rely on Him to carry out his promises. Because of who He is, what He has promised, and the faith we have in Him, we know He will never let us down.

God is Sovereign

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

A key aspect of God’s authority over His creation is His absolute sovereignty. He reigns supreme as the Supreme God. This characteristic enables Him to act in our best interests. Even though He has everything under control, He has also endowed us with the ability to choose whether or not to follow His guidance. That’s God’s beauty right there. Though He controls everything, He allows you to make your own decisions. Trust that God has your best interests in mind, and choose to act in accordance with His will.

God is Forgiving and Merciful

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

One definition of God’s kindness is that He does not always give us what we deserve. It is one of the best attributes of God. His compassion never runs out; it’s renewed each morning. When we repent and turn to God for mercy, He is faithful to forgive us. If we come to Him and confess our faults, the Bible says He is always ready to forgive and forget.

God is Three in One

“Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.” 1 Corinthians 8:6

The simplest way to put it is that God is a Divine Team composed of the Father, whose kingdom it is, the Son, who was to die on the cross, and the Holy Spirit, who brings us to new birth. The Father and the Son have commissioned you to be the Lord’s witness throughout the world. The Holy Spirit, on the other hand, will guide you on what to say in these situations.
