10 Bible verses to help you grow in wisdom and stature

The Bible instructs us to seek and pursue wisdom. But it is sometimes difficult to know how to “grow in wisdom,” as the young Jesus did.

Wisdom is personified in the Old Testament as a woman to be listened to and in the New Testament Paul writes that Jesus is the wisdom of God. So how do we attain wisdom? How do we adopt more of the wisdom of Christ into our own lives?

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”

Proverbs 4:6-7

“Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”

2 Chronicles 1:11-12

“Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honors, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”

Proverbs 19:20

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.”

Job 12:12

“Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?”

Psalm 37:30

“The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just.”

Proverbs 3:7

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.”
