As Christians, it is our duty and obligation to learn God’s word. Like students in school, teachers pattern lessons through textbooks, that is also the case with us believers. We need our source of information, one that will always guide us through different concepts and lessons.
The Bible is the complete go-to book for every Christian. So the more we learn about scriptures, the better it is for us to embody God’s word as well as teach others about it. Every verse in the Bible is important and valuable. However, there are key verses that will really stick to our minds and hearts. There’s nothing wrong if you want to focus on key verses; we are all different. What’s important is that you know these verses by heart and your list continues to grow.
Here’s a list of bible verses that every Christian should know.
1. Trust in the Lord even if you don’t understand what’s going on in your life.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
2. The best gift is from God and that is eternal life.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
3. When you’re worried about meeting your needs, God will provide.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
4. Material things aren’t the priority, God’s kingdom and righteousness are.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
5. God loves us so much that he died for our sins.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
6. Reading the Bible is a must.
“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8
7. Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor, these are the greatest commandments.
“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” Matthew 22:37-39
8. What is Love according to the Bible.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrong. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
9.The fruits of the Spirit.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
10. There is only one way to God and that is Jesus.
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
11. We are tasked to make disciples.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
12. The truth shall set you free.
“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
13. Storing up treasures in heaven is what we all must work for.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
14. God always keeps His promises. Our God is always faithful.
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.” Deuteronomy 7:9
15. God always hears you.
“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.” Psalm 145:18-19
