There is a great demand today for peace and soundness of mind. People try to look for it in many things — money, practices, principles, relationships and substances, to name only a few.
People fight to obtain peace, but Albert Einstein once said, “Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.” What does the Word of God tell us about peace?
God makes it clear to us that peace is not something that we work for. It is a gift freely given by God to us through Jesus Christ. The prophet Isaiah declared that Jesus would be the Prince of Peace, fully reigning amongst those who believe in Him and granting peace to those who ask.
Peace is not found in an ideology, religion or mindset. It is also not a product of something we do or something we don’t do. We cannot garner peace by being rid of something or gaining something. Peace is found in a person, and that person is Jesus Christ.
Here are several scriptures that assure us of the promise of peace that is made available as God’s gift to those who put their hope and trust in Him.
Psalm 29:11 “The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 54:10 “;Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,;” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.”
John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
