Honest to goodness

Luke 16:10 says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with very much.”

It is a character that everyone else must practice everywhere and anywhere. What is honesty anyway? “Honesty is a facet of moral character that connotes positive and virtuous attributes such as integrity, truthfulness, straightforwardness, including straightforwardness of conduct, along with the absence of lying, cheating, theft, etc.

Nowadays, there are less people who have the character of being honest but indulging more in lies. Lies in themselves, in money matter, in work probably, in the family or even to God. This passage teaches us to be diligent in our little sayings and in our little doings, so that we can be trusted in everything.

There are people still fighting for justice because they were not given honest and comprehensive judgments. They do not have the real peace in their hearts, in their minds and even their spiritual life. The character of being honest is particularly important in our daily life on this earth. Why? It is because it may bring peace in our personal life, in our individual responsibilities, in our relationships to all people around us and above all, it will bring glory to our God the Father.

We are not perfect, we sometimes make mistakes but, in our mistakes, we must honestly admit our wrong doings and that we are sorry for it, that is the good thing about it. Practicing honesty is not only when someone is watching over, but even if nobody is around. Jesus Christ wants us to be honest in everything, through our actions, in words, in thoughts, in our finances, and even in our time. Then, we can be trusted in huge responsibilities.

If we speak for the truth, there is a good result of it but a consequence of being dishonest. In Proverbs 10:31 says, “From the mouth of the righteous comes the fruit of wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be silenced” (NIV). That is why, we must be careful with our little words and try to examine if it pleases God and that may bring glory to Him through our life on this earth.

Be a blessing not a destructor to others. Always put on the character of Jesus Christ in our daily life, so that we may bring the stray people into a purposeful way of life. If we know the truth, then speak what is true, for the truth will set us free as the bible says in John 8:32“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
