Patience and self-control are two different things. Patience is more related to endurance in suffering and afflictions, while self-control is disciplining oneself not to make drastic decisions and actions. Our self-control is often tested by people and situations that we cannot control. When we reach our limit and fail to control our emotions, we just explode, and hurt people in the process.
Fortunately, the Bible tells us that self-control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It means if we have trusted Jesus as our Savior and His Spirit begins dwelling in us, we will have the capacity to have self-control even in extreme situations.
