Trusting in the Lord is Resting in the Lord Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding.
Acknowledge him in all your ways,
and he will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own estimation;
fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
This will bring healing to your body,
and refreshment to your inner self.

Proverbs 3:5-8 NET

Our minds, the storehouse of information, analyzing and processing the thoughts we received, serves as the commander and signals actions that manifest our responses in words and in deeds. Same goes with our hearts, our emotions or feelings, in one way or another, it directs our minds of what action to take but most of the time, both the mind and heart meet halfway that causes us to contemplate deeper, as though our minds and hearts are engaged in a war of who shall prevail. The mind that thinks, the heart that feels, are both wonderful gifts from our Heavenly Father, the creator, who made us all in the likeness of His image. Like Him, we think, and we feel.

Looking at the illustration of how our minds overthink and how our hearts wrestle with emotions, we see its complexity, especially when we face trials and making decisions that we are uncertain of. As analytical and emotional the minds and hearts are, our human capability will reach its limitation and cause fear and anxiety to what may take place.

That is why in today’s proverb, we are encouraged to “Trust in the Lord” at all times and “not to be wise on our own understanding” because of our limitations and biases. We need the counsel of God by giving reverence to Him, devoting our time in prayer and in His word, that we may know to discern what is right and the will of God in our daily lives. The writer added that resting by trusting in the Lord above all else brings healing to our bodies by letting go of overthinking, freeing us from anxiety that make us feel healthier, same goes with our inner selves, our spirits, that by resting by trusting in the Lord, we are not troubled. Today, be reminded and encouraged to rest in the Lord, by putting your trust in Him. In the midst of an instant generation, where answers seem to be around, where solutions to every scenario seem searchable, may we have the conviction to Trust in the wisdom and guidance of the Lord who keeps our paths straight towards Him.
