“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” – Matthew 28:19
It is hard for us to understand that as Christians, we have a duty to uphold. We have a duty that Christ has given us before He ascended to heaven. We have to understand that as Christians, we are not ought to stop only the moment we receive our salvation but as a response to it, we will have the desire to obey God and to follow him. Thus, if we want to follow Christ, we will then know the importance of discipleship.
When Christ gave us the greatest commission before ascending to heaven, He particularly told us to make disciples of all nations and baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. A disciple is not merely just someone you teach or someone you told the lesson to. However, a disciple is someone who really follows the teacher and to live a life that is in-sync with the teacher. A disciple is both a learner and a follower. Therefore, Jesus wants us to make disciples of all nations and teach them everything they need to do according to Christ’s life.
Truthfully, God does not want to push us to do something that we don’t want to. God does not want to control us that is why we have free will. He is not an unfair God and He does not control us like robots. So, when He says that He wants us to make disciples, He is telling us this because if we are truly saved, we also become His disciples and as true disciples we follow Jesus. So, as we become true disciples of Jesus, we will also have that desire to bring more people to Him.
It is very important for us to do that, not out of fear or because we are controlled, but because we truly understand that Christ has died for all of us. It is not because we are obligated, but as our response to God’s goodness, we are ought and we want to tell others about His love too. Therefore, we must go and make disciples. We will not just settle for just telling people about the Gospel and just leave them hanging. Instead, we must always follow them up, we must always retain to them the Gospel because we all know that faith comes from hearing and hearing the Word of God.
Thus, as Christians, we must make disciples of all nations. Telling them about the love of Christ and bringing them to the knowledge of Christ. As we continue to do what God commanded us to do, we will then bring the whole world into the saving knowledge of Christ. Through this, we are not just hoarding the Gospel, but we are also bringing lost souls to God because it is indeed only through Him we can find our salvation. Therefore, let us not stop spreading the Gospel and building each other up. Let us not stop bringing more people to Christ. Let us not stop making disciples because it is our only response to what God has done for us. It is also the highest form of love we can ever give and show to everyone.
