The Light of the World: Jesus is the Only Way

The light of the world
The ‘Light of the World’

Purity, perfection, radiance, glory; all words used to describe the light of our God and Savior. Christ’s light was so bright it blinded Saul on the road to Damascus. In Revelation 21, the light of God’s glory is so bright that is lights New Jerusalem without the need for the sun, moon, or torches. The further we travel in our journey to become Christ-like, the more that spotlight is on us. How do we let the ‘Light of the World’ into our soul? If you received Christ, the Light is already there. How do we get rid of the darkness? You grow closer to God and allow the Light to push it out. The brighter you allow Christ’s light to shine in you, the less darkness can survive.

We are creatures of darkness, of sin. Only God’s glory can rid us of that darkness. Light does not enter you without Christ. So doing good works or trying not to sin, that doesn’t give you light. Jesus is the Light of the World. Accept and follow him, there is not another way, all my faith rests on that promise.

Now, take a look at the most memorized verse in the New Testament, but read past verse 16. See what God has been telling us all along, right under the verse we know by heart. Try replacing ‘the light’ with ‘Jesus’ and the word ‘darkness’ with ‘sin’ or ‘earthly desires.’ Shines a real ‘Light’ on our walk, doesn’t it?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God. John 3:16-21

Photographer’s Notes– Capturing ‘Light of the World’

This photo was meant for “Immersion” the second it was taken. However, only recently during my church small group, one of the members asked if anyone could quote John 3:17. I found it an interesting question and discovered the verse meant for this image.

This image was captured on a small man made lake outside of Newnan, GA at ISO 100, f/8, 1/125 sec at 28mm. The light shining through the trees made a perfect spotlight on the water creating a divine feel to this unique moment.
