The gold of New Jerusalem signifies God in His intrinsic nature and the glory, the light of the city, is His expression. The city has, and needs, only one lamp to fill it with the divine light. This lamps is Christ— “the glory of God illumined [New Jerusalem], and its lamp is the Lamb” (Rev. 21:23).
The second aspect of the triune expression is the expression of the Son as the embodiment of all the divine riches. Whatever the source is and has is embodied in the Son. This triune expression of the Son as the embodiment of all the divine riches is in His person and with His work. In Revelation, the Lamb is the redeeming person, and this Redeemer as a person is the lamp (21:23). The Lamb as the lamp is altogether for expression. All the light bulbs are for expressing the light contained within them. The entire New Jerusalem is under the expression of Christ the person as the lamp.*
Ephesians 3:8 speaks about “the unsearchable riches of Christ as the gospel.” Later verses mention God’s eternal purpose and Christ making home in our hearts that we may come to know the limitless Christ and to be filled unto all the fullness of God. This chapter concludes with praise: “To Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus.”
This praise is in the church now yet is also “unto all the generations forever and ever.” This indicates that our current experiences of Christ as the embodiment of the divine riches eventually results in New Jerusalem as the glory of and to God.
