“Let us not neglect to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25
If there’s one aspect that makes a Christian community different is the habit of meeting each other with a desire to empower one another, in the knowledge and in the truth of God’s word. Patterned after the first community of believers of Christ in the book of Acts, they gather and meet each other, in prayer and in breaking of the bed, looking after one another, for physical and spiritual needs, reaching out to people and sharing the gospel, despite the threat to Christianity, they did not give up in meeting with one another and as a result of their faith and obedience, the gospel also reached us.
Living in a different culture of our generation today, our gatherings may differ but for one same purpose – that is to edify and lead each other in Christlikeness, growing in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, what we now call today, discipleship. We journey together by learning with one another, in prayer and in empowerment as representatives of God’s kingdom in our society.
The author of the Hebrews encourages us not to give up in meeting with one another, in fact, it isn’t even hard to meet today because of technology and some of us belong in places that does not have any threats to our gathering, we only need to have the desire and the will to journey in discipleship. We can only imagine the hardships the early Christians must’ve felt where they look for places to safely gather and shelter one another, today, we have been given the privilege to do it anywhere without the same threats that they experienced.
As a community, from wherever you are, whatever organization you belong, continue to feed one another’s faith pointing to Christ. Teach and impart in gentleness and love, and have the same compassion to reach out others, as exemplified by Christ. Let the sense of connection be restored.
