One day, two women approached the royal palace of King Solomon, their eyes filled with desperation and sorrow. Their tale reached the wise king’s ears. The dispute was over a newborn baby, a tiny life hanging in the balance of maternal claims.
The first woman, her face etched with anguish, spoke first. She said that both of them dwell in the same house. They both gave birth within days of each other. She claimed, “But tragedy struck, for her child perished in the night, and in her grief, she took my son and replaced him with her lifeless babe.”
The accused woman vehemently denied the accusations, her eyes ablaze with a mix of anger and despair. “No, my Lord! This woman speaks lies! The living child is mine, and the dead one belongs to her. She seeks to take my son away from me!”
The courtroom hushed as all eyes turned to Solomon, awaiting his judgment. The king, known for his divine wisdom, pondered the words before him. In a moment of inspiration, he ordered a sword to be brought before him.
“Divide the living child in two, and give half to one woman and half to the other,” Solomon declared, his voice unwavering.
Gasps filled the room, and the two women cried out in terror. Though desperate for a child, the first woman instantly revealed the depths of her motherly love. “No, my Lord! Please, give the living child to her. Just don’t harm him!”
However, the second woman, her deceit laid bare, coldly nodded in agreement. “Yes, let it happen as the king says. Divide the child, and neither of us shall have him.” In that critical moment, Solomon’s true universal wisdom shone. In his judgment, the king declared: “Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother” (1 Kings 3:27).
In his prayers, Solomon remarkably asked for wisdom from God. The Biblical account, narrated in 1 Kings Chapter 3, reveals that true wisdom emanates from the Lord.

The Bible serves as a timeless guide for ethical living, offering principles that resonate with individuals irrespective of their religious affiliation. The Ten Commandments, for example, provide a moral compass that emphasizes virtues such as honesty, compassion, and respect for others. These principles form the bedrock of many social systems and ethical frameworks across diverse societies.

We all experience pain, struggles, and aimlessness in our fallen and imperfect lives. Confronted by family separation, loss of a treasured job, or our deep concerns for our wayward children, we sometimes face a black wall. We are stuck, not knowing how to traverse these life challenges and successfully move on.
Much like a house, life is subject to storms and tempests that threaten to erode our sense of stability. The question then becomes: What foundation are we laying for ourselves?
Consider the rain as the trials that pour down, the streams as the rising pressures of life, and the winds as the unforeseen challenges. A life built on the rock of wisdom does not guarantee a storm-free existence but ensures that we remain unshaken when the storms rage.
Ask God for wisdom. The Bible encourages us to pray for wisdom: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5).
In the pursuit of success, happiness, and fulfillment, the foundational choice we make is paramount. The teachings found in God’s Word guide us toward the bedrock of enduring principles — a foundation rooted in universal wisdom, integrity, and compassion. Building a life on solid ground is not just a metaphorical expression; it’s a transformative philosophy that can shape our destinies.
