“How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.” – Psalm 31:19
It is with a grateful heart that all of the saints of God must praise His holy name. For all the things that God has done for us, He deserves all the praises and honor. In this Psalm today, David just merely declares the goodness of God to those who fear His name. He was completely in awe of God’s greatness to his life. He has declared how wonderful and great God is to those who take refuge in Him.
Indeed that the Lord is gracious and merciful. He is not a selfish God and He delights on our success. He is gracious for He has sent His Son to the world to save us from our sins. He is merciful for He has pardoned us all from our sins and chose to see Jesus Christ instead of us. God is indeed gracious and merciful because of all the great things He has done.
How abundant all the blessings that God has bestowed to us. From the air that we can breath to the water we can drink and to the food that we can eat. From all the blessings that we are just taking advantage of the blessings that we can really appreciate— He has really showered us so much blessings, even more than we deserve. God is never a hoarder of blessings and He is never a God who showers blessings with conditions, but He is a God who showers blessings even to us who doesn’t deserve it and to us who are very sinful.
Now, David also mentioned that God bestows blessings to those who fear Him but this doesn’t mean that God wants us to fear Him for control but for us to learn that He is the living God, the source of everything. We have to understand that we are nothing without His grace, without His blessings, without His mercy and without His presence overall. After all, we are all dependent on Him and we can never live without Him.
Indeed God works for the good of those who love Him. We are all called according to His purpose and that purpose is to believe in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and spread His love to all mankind. Therefore, as people who depend solely on God, we are to take refuge in Him and to fear Him so that when things come to shove, we know what ground we should stand on. We know that God has everything we need and that in Him, we are blessed with many blessings because He loves us.
