“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” – 2 Corinthians 4:4
We all know that the Word of God is alive and active. All of us are given exact and the same opportunities to hear the Word of God, but why are there a lot of people remaining in the darkness? How come there are still a lot of people who wanted to reject the Word of God and still chose not to believe in the Gospel? Well, Paul answered those questions in our verse today. He knew that there are still a lot of people who reject the truth and will reject the truth because they let the god of this world have the foothold of their lives. The god of the world has blinded their minds and is encouraging and making them reject the Gospel.
So, we need to know that our minds and decisions can be affected by the god we follow here in this world. Either our own selfish motives as our gods or just all the negative power in this world that really influences our decisions and our hearts. Thus, that is why there are a lot of people who still choose to deny God, reject Him, and do not believe in the Gospel. Thus, Paul wants to remind all of the people during his time and even our time that we will really expect people to reject the Gospel.
For the people who are already Christians, it is expected that as we share the Word of God, we will be rejected or people will deny His existence, but it is the natural reaction of the people here on earth for they are blinded by their own gods. Yet, we must not give up, we must still spread the word of His love and make them see that the light of the world is Christ– who is the image of God. However, we must still beware and continue to hold on to the promises of God that He will still guide us and it is not us who are reaching out to the people, but Him. We are His instruments and it is He who will grow their faith.
Now for the people who are still rejecting the Gospel or denying the promise of God, be open-minded. Do not let the gods of this world blind your minds. Look for Christ, look into His Word and let Him change your lives. He is our light, He is the only way to salvation and He alone we should praise. He is our only God, and He is our only Savior, there is no one like Him. So, we must always praise Him and accept and acknowledge that He is your God. Turn away from your evil deeds, and do not let the gods blind your hearts and minds, but let the light of God enlighten you into His kingdom.
