“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
“I’m tired!”
“What am I going to do with my life?”
“I don’t want to live anymore, everything seems to be so heavy.”
All these statements are usually statements we will hear from many people these days. Some of these people are even our close friends, our family, our relatives, our special someone, or even just a random person. Actually, we mostly do not care about this, especially if those people are not close to our hearts because we are creatures who only care about those who are ours and who are close to our hearts. However, little did we know, the longer we hear about these pessimistic statements, we are also internalizing it inside us. After how many times hearing these, we ourselves will feel the same too. It’s like what we hear is actually having a very big influence on our lives.
Now, as we fight against life’s and the world’s greatest battle, we are really carrying a heavy yoke of bondage of sin. This world is not merely just giving us a negative feeling of living our lives, we either get so tired or lose the reason for living because even if we admit it or not, our sins are really pulling us down. So, as Jesus said in John 16:33, He has overcome the world. Thus, this shows that He indeed knows what we are going through and He knows that our sins are actually pulling us down because it becomes so heavy from time to time.
Our verse today is comfort from Christ Himself. By context, Jesus was calling all the Israelites to come to Him and He will give them rest. However, Jesus was actually calling everyone. May it be the generation before He was born, or may it be the generation during His time or our generation today. We are called to come to Him because we are all weary and heavy burdened, and He will give us rest. Christ is our Savior and our Lord, He did not just save us, but He also cares for us overall. We are called to submit all our worries to Him and experience real peace in His presence.
Therefore, if we are in the situation of our life right now where living is quite impossible and hard, always remember to come to Jesus. He is the perfecter of our faith and He is our great comforter. He already took our sins away, so we must submit it all to Him, for He is the lamb of God, and let Him give us the peace that passes all understanding. Our sins and our guilt can really be overwhelming and it’s really making us tired. We just don’t know where our tiredness springs from but the bottom point of it is that our spirit and our soul are tired. Thus, we all need Christ and we all need His peace. So, we must come to Him, and He will give us rest. We must not forget to ask for His help for He has overcome the world. All glory and honor belong to our God who made the heavens and the earth, who saved us from our sins, and who comforts us and grows our faith every day. Amen and amen!
