The Gospel books testify Jesus as a man of miracles who healed many from various diseases (Mark 1:34). This included curing lepers, paralytics and the blind, among others.
Various accounts of the Lord healing the sick are recorded. One unique question Jesus first asked was a seemingly ordinary but essential question.
The man who was an invalid for thirty-eight years by the pool of Bethesda was asked, “Do you want to get well?” (John 5:6)
Similarly, Jesus asked the blind beggar Bartimaeus who called out for mercy on the roadside, “What do you want me to do for you?” (Mark 10:51)
Why did Jesus ask these axiomatic questions? Did the Lord really not know what these people wanted from him?
The Word of God is very profound.
Jesus wanted to verify if they themselves had the desire for salvation. After healing them, Jesus follows up with the words, “YOUR faith has saved you.”
Sin is a horrid, terminal disease that destroys an originally beautiful and healthy God-given spirit. We must be healed of this dreadful disease. The question is not whether Jesus is capable of manifesting this miracle in my life, but whether I want it, and if I’m willing to acknowledge the need for His intervention.
Let the voice of Jesus also ring in our ears today.
…“Do you want to be healed?”
…“Do you want to change?”
…“Do you want to be saved?”
