“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 CORINTHIANS 10:13
“I’ve been a Christian for so long, how come I haven’t changed yet?”
“How come I fall into the same sin over and over?”
“Why am I still tempted to do things that are not pleasing to God?”
“Why do I still lack self-control?”
“Why do I get irritated easily?”
Does this sound like you? Have you ever asked these questions and maybe wondered if God is really doing something in your life? I know it gets frustrating, and the thought of giving up always crosses your mind because you are not sure anymore if He is really working in your life. Sometimes, it’s easier to fall into sin than resist temptation. You are starting to doubt if He can change your heart.
It is frustrating that no matter how much you want to change, you constantly find yourself in the same loop- in the same senseless pursuits. But be reminded that you can never conquer fire by playing with it. So as much as you can, flee from temptation. It’s better to avoid it than to fight it, right? So beloved child of God, there is always a way out, as He has said in His word. Always choose it.
Another way of enduring life’s temptations is to find an accountability partner. Chances are, they already know, and they are struggling with sin as well. Find people who will pray for you and with you. You are not designed to overcome temptations alone. You will need a spiritual family who will guide you and be your support system towards becoming Christlike. Find and connect with one today.
Take heart in this: God allows temptations in your life because if He has given you the perfect life of faith, you wouldn’t be able to understand what it means to persevere, endure, and know what it means to love Him with all your might. Yes, to love Him with all your heart and mind is two things, but to love Him with your body and soul is another. So keep pressing on, for nothing is ever wasted when you endure for Him.
