““Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun?” ECCLESIASTES 1:2-3
Some of the wealthiest people work so hard to gain money or power, but they never feel contented. So they work even harder. They always want more than what they have. They are eager to gain more wealth or be better in what they do. However, they can’t seem to find genuine happiness. Sad to say, some of them even struggle with a dysfunctional family.
According to the wisest person who ever lived, King Solomon, there is ultimate emptiness that this world has to offer. We sometimes look for worldly pleasures that would satisfy our inner being without realizing that these pleasures are only temporary.
Our pleasures in life will make us feel good, worthy, profitable, or successful in a way, but they would take all our time, energy, and peace. It may make us happy for a while, but it can take away our eyes from the Lord. It can lead to sin when uncontrolled, and worse, it can lead to your spiritual death. And you wouldn’t want that.
To live apart from God means to experience the same pointless labor over and over again, yet it never seems to pay off. That’s why we sometimes feel exhausted, burned out, unmotivated, and disheartened. Because God is calling our attention, we must change our perspective.
Sometimes, we get too excited to achieve something great that we fail to recognize Someone who is greater than any other things combined. So remind yourself, God should be your Master. Not your spouse, family, job, school, boss, or spiritual leader. God has blessed you with many things, so you must glorify Him with all that.
In his book, The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren said, “You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense.” Understand that this life is never about money, power, or accomplishments, but a life well-lived for the glory of God. So today, make that choice.
