Making big decisions – whether about a new job, a relationship, where to live, or anything else – can be incredibly difficult. While we trust that God cares deeply about our choices, it’s especially hard when He appears to be silent. Sometimes He’ll speak to us specifically about our circumstances, while at other points he may not.
But however clearly we hear God’s voice, and whatever the outcome, we can be sure He will remain faithful and wants the best for us.
Here are 10 Bible verses that may help if you’re facing a big decision:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’.”
“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Saviour, and my hope is in you all day long.”
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.”
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.”
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
