“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 CHRONICLES 7:14
Many times in our life, we think that it is already enough to serve God through praying every night and going to church on Sundays. But the truth is, serving Him does not stop there. It starts by doing them. But we must show our genuine faithfulness and obedience to God through these four acts mentioned in the Scripture above.
One, humility in God’s presence. This means coming before Him in respect and awe of Him. Respect and awe in who He is, in His character, in what He has done, and in what He will do. One mark of being a true follower of Christ is humility. Having a humble heart recognizes you are a sinner and that you need God in your life.
Second, unceasing prayer. Prayer is our direct hotline to God. It is our means of communicating to our Creator. To pray without ceasing means never to stop seeking His face; to seek God’s face is to be in His presence. When we pray, we step into His shelter of love, comfort, and grace. Unceasing prayer is never giving up in talking to Him, regardless of whether we hear Him or not.
Third, true repentance. When the Bible says “turn from their wicked ways,” it means turning 180 degrees from sin. It involves a real transformation from the inside out. Not just changing some ways or behaviors, but actually, it is becoming more and more like Christ, keeping yourself away from any sin.
The fourth and last is the pursuit of God. This is understanding that the grace of God is a gift and a privilege, not a ticket to sin. To pursue God is committing your life to Him. It is making the daily choice of serving and glorifying Him in all that you do. The pursuit of God isn’t a one-time decision but rather a lifelong commitment.
God doesn’t promise rainbows and sunshine. He promises forgiveness, healing, and eternal life. But to accomplish that, we must do our parts in dominating our lives with these four actions.
