In this article and the next 3 weeks we will continue to look at some of the many of God’s wonderful promises in His word. There are literally thousands of promises in God’s word the Bible. Because God is perfectly faithful, His promises are actually guarantees.
This week we will dive into God’s word and look at God’s Promises for Contentment.
God’s Promises for Contentment
God wants us to be at peace and content with what we have. People that are not content tend to complain. And they do not honor and glorify God when they are that way.
Here are some of the verses and promises in God’s word about contentment.
Hebrews 13:5 – “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.“
Proverbs 17:22 – “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.“
Surrender and submission to God is one of the key things to do in order to be content. Trusting God that He knows what is best for you. And that God wants what is best for you.
There is a saying that is true – “Too much of a good thing is not good for you”. God knows what is “too much” for you.
More of God’s Promises For Contentment
Proverbs 15:15 – “ll the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.“
Proverbs 14:30 -“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.“
A cheerful heart, a heart at peace, comes from trusting God wholeheartedly. And being content with what God gives you.
Even in difficult circumstances, if you are surrendered to God and if you trust Him and in what He is doing in and through your circumstances, you can be at peace and be content.
God’s Promises For Contentment
Proverbs 23:17-18 – “Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. 18 There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.”
1 Timothy 6:6 – “But godliness with contentment is great gain.“
1 Timothy 6:7–10 “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
In 1 Timothy 6 Paul is l is teaching on godliness and contentment. Some people use Christianity and ministry as a means to gain a lot of money, status, and praise. These things ultimately lead them astray, and farther & farther from God.
Thus they are farther from the One Source of true joy, peace, and contentment.
