How should we store up treasures in heaven?

Setting aside money is crucial for everyone, especially in times of emergencies. There is nothing wrong with savings.

However, most people are so busy storing treasures, such as investing in a house, car, gold, and other material things here on earth.

Have we considered storing treasures in heaven? The world has deceived us that success and happiness come from our earthly possessions.

The scheme could be one of the most significant reasons people work so hard day and night to attain these material things.

Moreover, satan is using this mindset for us not to value the most important treasure that we should be working hard for.

What does it mean to store up treasures in heaven

Matthew 6:19–21 says we should not store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them, and rust destroys them.

Also, thieves break in and steal them. But Jesus said we have to store our treasures in heaven, where no one and nothing could destroy or steal them.

Thus, the scripture emphasizes that wherever your treasure is, the desires of your heart will also be there.

Storing treasures in heaven is more about giving our heart and soul to Jesus Christ than thriving for our needs here on earth. It is about putting God above everything.

Besides, storing treasures in heaven is about dedicating our money, time, talents, and gifts to God. We do everything to glorify Him with all our strength.

Nevertheless, it may seem so difficult to store up treasures in heaven since we have a lot of things to do to live. With all our sacrifices, God promised to reward us for our labor for Him.

How should we store up treasures in heaven

God promised to reward those prioritizing storing treasures in heaven over toiling for riches and material possessions here on earth.

Still, we must understand that storing treasures in heaven does not mean we must stop dreaming of having a better life here on earth.

It is more about knowing what is more important, especially because no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind could ever conceive of what God has prepared for those who love Him. (1 Corinthians 2:9)

One way to express our love for God is to store our treasures in heaven.

Here are some helpful ways to focus more on our treasures in heaven.

Commit to following Jesus

In everything we do and say, we must consider what Jesus would do if He were in your situation. We store treasure in heaven by imitating how Jesus speaks and treats people.

Our Heavenly Father is pleased to see us imitating His son in our words and actions. We are to treasure Jesus Christ, our Lord, most of all.

Besides, when Jesus Christ came here on earth, He lived righteously by doing what His Heavenly Father commanded. He modeled a life devoted to God in everything that He did.

More importantly, Jesus showed us how to commit our lives to glorifying our Heavenly Father

Thus, if we are also committed to imitating Jesus, we are secure in the knowledge that we are saving treasures in heaven.

Commit our time

We only have 24 hours a day, seven days a week. How often do you devote your time to getting closer to God?

Despite our business of attaining our goals and fulfilling our roles as parents and spouses, we should still be committed to giving our time to serve the Lord.

Remember that Jesus Christ did not just save us from our sins; He also called us to help Him.

One way to commit our time is to participate in church activities that give us opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those who are broken and in need.

Additionally, do not neglect the Sabbath. It is one of God’s commandments. The Scripture noted that God had given us six days to work, but we must spend the seventh day with the Lord. (Exodus 20:8-11)

He understands that we have to work for our needs, so He only asks us for a day to rest with Him and fellowship with Him and His people.

The Sabbath day is Holy to God, so we have to respect it for Him.

Another way to commit our time is to devote a specific day to getting to know Him more. God is pleased when we talk to Him about anything and everything.

Those who devote their time to communicating with God are the ones lifted and favored by God, such as King David, Abraham, and Daniel.

Commit our money

Not all Believers are open to saving treasures in heaven through their finances, but when we commit our money to the Lord, we prove that God is more important than our wealth.

Furthermore, money is so crucial for everyone that it can control the mindset of others. They do bad things for money.

Sadly, Satan uses the money to push us away from God. Some people love money more than God, not knowing that all these things are temporary and can be stolen.

For instance, the rich young man loved his money more than God in Matthew 19:16-30.

The man’s riches are not the problem, but what he valued most was his riches rather than what he could have in Jesus.

He wanted to follow Jesus, but when asked to sell all his possessions and give them to the poor to have treasure in heaven, the young man left Jesus.

In other words, He chose the world’s treasure instead of storing treasures in heaven.

Moreover, we set up our treasures in heaven when we faithfully give our ten percent tithes to the Lord. It shows that we are willing to obey Him despite our financial struggles.

Commit our talents or gifts

God created us with unique talents and gifts because He wants us to use these gifts to glorify Him and make Him known to the world.

In 1 Corinthians 12, the Apostle Paul explained that spiritual gifts are given to each of us so we can help each other. Thus, when we use our skills for others, we set aside treasures in heaven.

Some may misunderstand that singing and dancing in the church is the only way to store treasures in heaven.

If God has given us the gifts of teaching, cooking, writing, and more talents and skills, we could all give God glory by committing everything we do to Him.

Commit to serving others

Jesus Christ does not live for himself but for God by loving and serving His people who are hurting and suffering. We should not tire of doing good to others because our labor is not in vain.

God will reward the service we are giving Him and His ministry. The more we act like Jesus’ feet and hands to the needy, the more treasure we can expect in Heaven.

We may have different callings and ways to serve others, but we have the same God who sees our works and sacrifices.

1 Corinthians 3:8 says, “The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their hard work.”

Sacrifices bring us eternal rewards

It takes a lot of sacrifice and suffering here on earth when we choose to store treasures in heaven.

However, we must never forget that our heavenly reward is great. No one can steal it from us; these treasures will never fade.

Jesus said that we have to take heart, for we would have troubles in this world, but He has overcome the world.

We may lose the treasures here on earth, but nothing is better than enjoying the treasures in heaven. Hearing God saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” is priceless.
