Proverbs 15:16-17
“Better is little with the fear of the Lord
than great wealth and turmoil with it.
Better a meal of vegetables where there is love
than a fattened ox where there is hatred.”
As we grow, we realized that the societal system and structure of the world raised us that a life of having more depicts success. More money, material possessions, higher labels, luxury, and all the good things in life we can thought of. It has in fact become a standard in the society for so long.
As we look at the scripture in today’s daily bread from the book of Proverbs, it also means that “better is less with the Lord as the center, living in His will and submitting to God in obedience everyday’’, in short, having God alone is more than enough, Him being the top priority of our lives, is so much better than having more without the presence of God – unsatisfaction, emptiness, loveless, lifeless despite having many.
May we be reminded that the goal isn’t about having more, although the Lord blesses and provide for His people, the ultimate aim is to put God first in all aspects of our lives, at a personal level, in our families, and communities, that even though we have few, yet there is pure joy, love, fulfillment and more than anything else, the consoling presence of the Lord.
