This month’s guest blogger is Cindy Tingley. Her Lily Bible story series promote faith in oneself and the power of love. These chapter books will delight children between the ages of 5-10 years old.
Lily Bible Stories
Lily, the little long-eared, care-free, carrot-munching donkey, took control of my life one morning many years ago. Her story had to be written. I was not in charge. As the story flowed through me, Lily began to take shape. She is little, quiet and anxious, and a dreamer who has talked to the angels since she was very young. One day, the Angel Gabriel comes to her. He tells her about this special baby who is to be born. And that her whole life is about to change.
The message for children to learn from Lily’s stories is that we need to keep our spirits up and spread love to one another as Jesus commands us. Click To Tweet
But Lily has problems! Big ones! She’s addicted to carrots, and she has a big mouth—whatever she thinks and feels comes out. She needs anger management. Lily has no patience and, like so many, no faith in herself. She’s never even been out of her own field. She begins to question her ability to carry out the mission she’s been given. Can she really carry Mary and her baby to Bethlehem? This baby will change the world. And, Lily is just a little donkey.
A Big Heart
Lily has no faith in herself. Her self-doubt rages. But then Joseph teaches her about heart-talk and heart vision. She learns that she was chosen due to her big heart full of love, which makes her perfect for carrying Mary to Bethlehem.
With the birth of Jesus, she learns that he brings a new way of loving that he will teach us all. God’s Son, the Holy One, who everyone had been waiting to arrive for so long, has finally come, and Lily is witness to it all.
Lily’s Message
The message for children to learn from Lily’s stories is that we need to keep our spirits up and spread love to one another as Jesus commands us. Like Lily, we have to put one foot in front of the other and keep moving and love one another. This is our purpose in life. No matter what happens in our lives, with faith in God, we can handle it. Christ’s love will always see us through. This is what Jesus teaches Lily.
Heart-Talk
These stories came from my love for Christ, his mother, and for animals. Animals are very forgiving; they’re very constant. We can learn from them as I feel we’ve lost our way. We’ve lost the art of heart-talk. I really had no idea when Lily was penned that she could be a tool for healing in a pandemic. In these trying times, we all need Jesus in our lives. Now, more than ever.
