“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
Rebuking may connote something negative. But here, we are talking about Godly rebuking through the scriptures which is one of the most wonderful features of the Bible. It’s so striking that it speaks to us personally, a holy rebuke. A rebuke that gives us the conviction to come near to the Lord, realize and repent.
In today’s passage, it assures us that the Bible is “God-breathed” which means that all of its words are coming from the Lord, these are instructions from God’s very voice through the writers empowered by the Holy Spirit, and it contains words that are rebuking yet leading us to a fruit bearing life.
Loving the scripture means loving the rebuke of the Lord which will lead us out of darkness into clarity, wisdom and liberation. This is love, hence, the loving rebuke from a loving Father, given to us through the gift of a scripture, the Bible.
