New Jerusalem, Eternal Vessel of Glory

Romans 9:23 declares that God wants to “make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He had before prepared unto glory.”

Also, 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 says God “is the One who shined in our hearts to illuminate the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God and not out of us.”

God’s desire is to make known His glory in human beings as vessels containing Him. This begins with the Spirit making our spirit alive (John 3:6), our regeneration. This process continues with our beholding Him to be “transformed into the same image from glory to glory” (2 Cor. 3:18). This is the transformation by the Spirit’s renewing of our soul.

The process concludes when our Lord Jesus Christ “will transfigure the body of our humiliation [the “earthen vessel” in 2 Cor. 4] to be conformed to the body of His glory” (Phil. 3:21). Praise God! He is “leading many sons into glory” (Heb. 2:10).

The aggregate of God working His glory into our human vessels is in Ephesians 3:21, “To Him be the glory in the church.” The consummation is New Jerusalem, a city of God blended with all His people “having the glory of God.”
