The previous post emphasizes our human spirit in our preparation for the Lord’s return.
Many New Testament verses speak of our doing things in spirit. Examples:
• Romans 8:15, “you have received a spirit of sonship in which we cry, Abba, Father!”
• Galatians 5:16, 25, “live by the Spirit,” “walk by the Spirit.”
• Ephesians 2:22, “you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in spirit.”
Some verses refer to our human spirit and others refer to the divine Spirit. However, in some verses it is not clear because the divine Spirit is in our human spirit and the two spirits are one! First Corinthians 6:17, “he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit.”
Verse 6:17 is a key to understanding 1 Corinthians 12:3, “no one speaking in the Spirit of God says, Jesus is accursed; and no one can say, Jesus is Lord! except in the Holy Spirit.” We exercise our spirit, one with the Holy Spirit, to declare Jesus is Lord.
In the same way, Ephesians 6:18 speaks about “praying at every time in spirit.” This is to pray with and in our spirit which is united with the Holy Spirit. Likewise, to live and walk by the Spirit (Gal. 5) is to live and walk in and by our spirit mingled with the Spirit.
