“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” HEBREWS 12:1-2
Today, we begin our reflection in one of the most notable revelations in the scriptures, the book of Hebrews. In today’s daily bread, we look and ponder at Hebrews 12:1-2. The cloud of witnesses are people that have persevered in the preservation and revelation of the good news of Jesus Christ. They are our encouragement and in this same scripture, we are called to arm ourselves by sincerely fixing our eyes in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Everyday, we look at the news happening around us and admittedly, most of them are discouraging. Same goes with our day-to-day life, we see everyone’s priorities begins to change, circling around the self and also we see endless pain and suffering around that are too much to bear that when we give in, we will lose. Looking at today’s scripture, we are encouraged to hold our grip on Jesus Christ, the perfecter of our faith. Just like the witnesses who have gone before us, we are called to run with perseverance now more than ever, steadily putting our eyes on Christ, moving towards his way and will, and putting down every unbelief that leads us to sin that entangle us from the freedom that Jesus Christ has given us.
Amidst chaos around us, even in the most little details of our lives, in Jesus Christ may we find the strength to endure, to see things in the lenses of Christ, continue to desire holiness and submit to the sanctifying power of our Lord who work in and through us, transforming us from glory to glory. This is the antidote to perseverance, may you be encouraged to stand up once more and cling to Christ and persevere as we wait in His glorious day to come.
