Our human spirit mingled with the divine Spirit (“one spirit” 1 Cor. 6:17) is a key to our preparation for the glorious visible return of the Lord Jesus and for New Jerusalem.
Ephesians 6:18 encourages us to pray in spirit. For what should we pray? The words just before this phrase are “receive…the sword of the Spirit, which Spirit* is the word of God, by means of all prayer and petition.” Physical Bibles are God’s printed Word and Christ is His living Word. John 1:1, 4, “in the beginning was the Word…in Him was life” (and Rev. 19:13).
The Lord Jesus is the living word of God. He told us in John 6:63 that “the words which I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” The way to receive life from the Bible is to pray, using our spirit, with the written words of the Bible.
Take a verse or verses you like and pray with them, exercising your spirit. Pray what is written, pray about the words you read, thank the Lord for these words, ask the Lord to make these words “spirit and life” in your daily living.
