O God, you are my God. I long for you.
My soul thirsts for you,
my flesh yearns for you,
in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
Yes, in the sanctuary I have seen you
and witness your power and splendor.
Because experiencing your loyal love is better than life itself,
my lips will praise you.
For this reason I will praise you while I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
Psalm 63:1-4
In the between of life, we found ourselves inclined into the day-to-day routine and at some point overwhelmed by the cares of this life. We shrink into the mundane and experience spiritual dryness leaving us feeling empty.
In today’s passage, we are encouraged of what the Psalmist uttered, “My soul thirsts for you, my flesh yearns for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water”. He too felt that dryness at one point in his life where he felt the need to be filled in, similarly with us, in situations where we are in “dry land”, which figuratively means stuck in the middle of life and there is none that can satisfy our thirst and our yearning for spiritual revival. In the next lines, the Psalmist continued, and He expressed, “in the sanctuary I have seen you and witness your power and splendor”, which means that the Psalmist went into in a place surrounded with silence, reflected on the goodness of God and there He experienced the unexplainable consolation brought by the affirming presence of the Lord that reveals His glory and steadfast love in a personal way.
Taking from this, no matter how plenty are there in our plate right now, may we learn to find a time of solitude with the Lord, to be consoled, and to behold His goodness. The only way to fill our empty cup is to be filled by the Lord, something that we should do every day, for indeed, to experience His steadfast love is better than life, in fact He is life, and God should be involved in our day-to-day life. May the outflow of His love give us the sole reason to praise Him while we live, lift our hands and lead others joyfully into the Christ.
If you are feeling dry today, may this encourage you to find a special place, commune with the Lord and find the water that will never leave you empty and thirsty again.
