Hey beautiful people,
I hope that this post meets you and your family well?
…Have you ever overheard the phrase ‘God told me’ or better yet has someone specifically mentioned the words ‘God told me that you’re my wife’ or maybe ‘God told me that you’re my husband’. If so, keep on reading because I guess you could learn a thing or two from todays write up.
There is a lot to say regarding the statement ‘God said’, but due to my pretty hectic schedule I’ve condensed this post but if you’d like to understand more deeply I’d encourage you to search God’s Word more deeply.
Firstly I believe that using the phrase ‘God said’ should not be thrown around so often, this is because a lot of the time many of us struggle to differentiate between our own feelings, God’s voice and satan’s lies. Another thing I’ve noticed is that when one says such words publicly they use it to ‘help’ give their statements authority (some individuals not all). The words ‘God said’ carry more weight and people cannot argue with it, basically people use it to weaponise their words.
Now, specifically looking into the statement ‘God said you are my wife/husband’ one of the cases I can think of in the Bible where this happened is when God told Hosea the prophet to marry a prostitute, and this DIDN’T happen often. Now, what I will say is that people can feel the peace of God when making a decision including the decision to marry someone. Knowing God’s Word and knowing that the person you’re courting holds God’s Word in high esteem and lives to honour God amongst many other godly attributes can give a person a great sense of peace which surpasses all human understanding when making the decision to commit to someone for the rest of their lives in holy matrimony. Please understand that God speaks to ALL His children through His WORD the BIBLE. Sadly I’ve noticed that in some unhealthy relationships you discover that usually the more controlling/domineering individual tends to hear from God more or is the only one who hears from God (yet again this is questionable and people tend to use such phrases to make themselves feel important or to control others).
A biblical example: Abraham sends his servant out to find Isaac a wife (Genesis 24).
Rebekah was given a CHOICE!!
There was no coercion, she was not forced to leave her parents home, she was ASKED!
Genesis 24:58 ~ “So they called Rebekah. “Are you willing to go with this man?” they asked her. And she replied, “Yes, I will go.”
Abrahams servant did not walk up to Rebekah and say God said you are Isaacs wife! He said a prayer in his heart (he was very specific with his prayer). He didn’t chase Rebekah down saying you are the one for Isaac.
Even if you’ve received your own personal confirmation about something this does not mean you should immediately share this with others. Remember there is a time for everything and as God has given us freewill, we should also accept that others have freewill too. Ultimately our words shouldn’t be used to twist someone’s hand into doing something we believe to be right!
What God says about saying ‘God said’ when He didn’t say
Some biblical references:
Jeremiah 23:16 ~ “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says to his people: “Do not listen to these prophets when they prophesy to you, filling you with futile hopes. They are making up everything they say. They do not speak for the Lord!”
Jeremiah 23:18 ~ “Have any of these prophets been in the Lord’s presence to hear what he is really saying? Has even one of them cared enough to listen?”
Jeremiah 23:25 ~ “I have heard these prophets say, ‘Listen to the dream I had from God last night.’ And then they proceed to tell lies in my name.”
Jeremiah 23:30-32 ~ “Therefore,” says the Lord, “I am against these prophets who steal messages from each other and claim they are from me. I am against these smooth-tongued prophets who say, ‘This prophecy is from the Lord!’ I am against these false prophets. Their imaginary dreams are flagrant lies that lead my people into sin. I did not send or appoint them, and they have no message at all for my people. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
Jeremiah 23:36 ~ “But stop using this phrase, ‘prophecy from the Lord.’ For people are using it to give authority to their own ideas, turning upside down the words of our God, the living God, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”
[Side-note: Many Christians end up living lives paralysed by fear and are unable to move anywhere in life because they are waiting on God for a sign or vision. This is not the way to live. Simply commit your ways to the Lord, pray and take a step of faith. Don’t stand idle. People put more faith in dreams or their own imagination instead of trusting in God (we must believe that God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose). Sadly people are constantly seeking signs about the future instead of actually living. Some dreams we have will have no meaning whatsoever, some may even come from the evil one, and some might by birthed from the thoughts we’ve been thinking about all day. Please do remember that God does speak to us and the most common way to hear from God is through OPENING YOUR BIBLE.]
As mentioned earlier in the post there is so much more to say on this topic, I think I’ll write up a part two so do stay on the lookout. Please do share this post with those you believe will be blessed by the content shared. Continue to stay safe. I’d also like to state that I do believe that God can speak to His children through various ways and we shouldn’t limit Gods power in any way. But the most common way God communicates to His children is through His Word!
Philippians 4:6-7 ~ “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 8:28 ~ “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
God bless
