“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” – John 1:29
There are many ways to recognize Jesus as our Lord and Savior these days. God has given us so many ways to recognize Him, but it is us who rejects Him without any doubt. However, it doesn’t mean that God was unfair to the people before and has not given them the way to recognize Jesus. In fact, God has given them many ways to recognize Him too, and they even really have Jesus Himself to tell them that He is the Son of God. Yet, the world rejected Him and did not recognize Him. Although there are many prophets who declared that Christ is the lamb of God, many doubts and even believe more to the prophet themselves instead of Jesus.
One example of that is our verse today, John the Baptist has been followed by many people even before Christ has arrived. Many people even thought that he is the Messiah, but He carefully and clearly said it all to them that he is just a person who prepares the way of the Lord. Now, when Christ came, John the Baptist declared in front of many people that Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. With just this, we can already ask why almost all the people before rejected Christ. At first, many followed Him, but John 6:66 recorded that after Jesus told them about a very difficult teaching, many of His followers turned away from Him.
This just shows that although people had a lot of proof and even Jesus was literally with them already, they still chose to reject Him. Now, what is the difference between us and them? Well, the difference is that before, there was still a lot of confusion. Although we can never say that we are more blessed now, our generations and their generations are both blessed. Yet, our time is different. We are bombarded with so many teachings and many intelligent people. The more intelligent people get, the more faith is confusing and doesn’t make sense to them.
Thus, we can conclude that we are intelligent and deliberately rejecting Christ now and really completely denying His existence, even if history is shouting, the proof is shouting and even the creation is shouting that He is true and living. Therefore, let us recheck ourselves and reflect on this. Let us hear what John the Baptist said that Christ is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He is the only way, He is our only salvation and He is the one who takes away our sins. Let us believe and receive Christ, even if there are things that are unexplainable, by faith, it will all make sense.
We must also realize that everything we have now— our safety, our good health, our food, our shelter, our family, our possessions, and even our life, it all comes from Him. He is our Lord and Savior. Indeed, He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Let us not dismiss this good news and reject Him, but let us accept Him wholeheartedly and declare with John that indeed He is the Son of Man and He is our salvation. Let us believe and receive Christ, even if there are unexplainable things, by faith, it will all make sense. All glory and honor belong to Him alone. Amen and amen!
