Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-44
Jesus said that she voted more. This refers to quality, not quantity. The Lord looks at our hearts. If we try our best to give, the Lord sees us as the one giving the most. I hope we can understand the warm heart of the Lord. The important thing is to give it with our heart and love, not just think that I don’t have it so I can not give. Quantity represents practical thinking. This kind of person will think, without money and ability, what can I do to change the situation? The thoughts of practicality is like the enemy on our faith journey.
There are very few children in the miracle of five loaves and two fishes, they don’t have enough food, but through these, Jesus did feed five thousand people. It’s easy for us to doubt whether what we have done is OK, but don’t be constrained by such thoughts. The Lord will fill the rest, we are God’s co-workers in the history of salvation and God’s kingdom, let us live with positive thoughts and faith. In the two thousand years history of Christianity, there are many unknown Christians who live with this kind of faith, they are the people who have led this history, not theologians. Let us live with a sincere heart.
When we work, we will look at the things we have done and the results, we will count, and we are easily bound by the thoughts of quantity, and become disappointed and hopeless. But let us not lose this heart and strive to give it. We pray and fast when we meet difficulties and challenges, not because fasting can bring us money and success, but because we want to live with a sincere heart in front of God, a life with a high standard, we want to live our life with very beautiful faith. Jesus will watch us, just like watching that widow.
