Unlimited: Alone with the Disciples
May 16, 2024 1956
They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.” But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it (Mark 9:30–32, NIV).
Jesus wanted to spend some time alone with his disciples. I wonder why? What was this most important thing that he wanted to teach them?
Jesus wanted to teach his disciples about what would happen to him in Jerusalem. He wanted to point out to them the importance of his death. It was so important that he wanted to be alone with them to focus them on it.
But it was no use. Their worldview was so different to his, that they were focused on other things. They didn’t even want to ask Jesus about what he meant when he talked about going to the Cross.
The reason why they didn’t understand what Jesus was telling them about the Cross was the same reason why they hadn’t been able to cast the evil spirit out of the boy at the foot of the mount of transfiguration.
The disciples had a serious blockage in their lives. This blockage caused them to be spiritually powerless, and now we see that it caused them not to be able to understand the teachings of Jesus.

Eli’s Reflection: In the following verses, we will discover precisely what that blockage is. Read ahead and see if you can work it out. And take some time to reflect on what might be some spiritual blockages in your own life. Humbly ask Jesus to remove them.
