Living a life of self-centeredness is a sin. If we don’t invite God into the center of our heart, it gets filled with something else instead of God. Our eyes become focused only on ourselves and we look to satisfy the desires of our hearts. Cain is the one who was overtaken by a self-centered attitude and ended up committing a horrible sin. Cain’s heart was not centered on God and he didn’t care about his brother. He only focused on how he felt and killed his very own flesh and blood. We should not be self-centered. Let’s look at what the Bible says about being self-centered.
Not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
– Philippians 2:4 NIV –
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
