When Adam fell after breaking God’s commandment, sin entered into humans. Sin begets sin, and we can see this through the story of Cain and Abel. Cain killed his brother Abel. There is a fight in our hearts between evil and good. This kind of inner struggle makes us very tired and weary. Even after justification by faith, we see the same fight inside of our hearts and fall in despair by realizing how sinful we are. There is only one way for us to win this battle according to the Apostle Paul. It is when we unite with Jesus Christ, lay down our sinful desires at the cross, and live again with Jesus. Let’s look at what the Bible says about Cain and Abel.
And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did norespect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is or you, but you should rule over it.”
Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
Genesis 4:3-8 (NKJV)
By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. Hebrews 11:4 (NKJV)
12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous. 1 John 3:12 (NKJV)
Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. Jude 1:11 (NKJV)
Therefore the wisdom of God also said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’ that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.
Luke 11:49-51 (NKJV)
