Repentance is a vital doctrine in the Bible. It teaches that man has the capacity of admitting fault and asking for forgiveness. However, it does not end there. The principle behind repentance is that there is a change of perspective and a change of heart regarding a particular sin in his life.
Repentance can be achieved in three stages – the first is admission or confession of sin. One should know what sin he committed and understand why it is wrong. Next step is to be humble enough to seek forgiveness from God and the offended party.
Finally, the person should stop doing the sin right away. This means once a person repents of a sin he committed, he would try his best not to repeat the same mistake. Repentance is needed when one puts his faith on the Lord Jesus as His Savior.
