What sounds more joyful than seeing God grant you the desires of your heart? The scriptures say the Lord delights in giving us our needs if we ask Him in faith through Christ Jesus.
Many people out there dream of having the best things in life. Sometimes even the most beautiful and desired dream fails to materialize —it vanishes like a puff of smoke. Whether is a daydream or a strategic plan of breaking through in life, you would need the help of God. He works things out for His children to overcome obstacles that hinder their freedom, success, happiness, health, peace, etc, God loves to give you your heart desires because He cares.
The Lord is a loving father who delights in the happiness of His children. Interestingly, He made the heart of man to be the center of His abode. If what comes out of your heart is good, then it will please God. He is always looking at the heart like how David is called “a man after God’s own heart” in Acts 13:22.
David loved the Lord with all his heart and strength. He demonstrated some of the top qualities (obedient, humble, dependent, devoted, reverent, etc) of being a servant of the Lord. Why would God not delight in granting his heart desires?
Remember that the Spirit of God dwells in the heart of all believers. By understanding God granting the needs of your heart must be well tuned to His perfect will.
Your imagination of how you want to live a godly life that deserves rewards from all the promises of God is a praiseworthy idea.
We all have heart desires that certainly differ from person to person. By taking you as my reader in question, it should be obvious that the desires of your heart are worthy and reasonable in the sight of God. Every desire surely comes from the heart and the Bible is telling us that God loves to grant us our heart desires.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)
In this post, you would find out the kind of desires God loves to bring into fruition and which repels Him as the giver of all good things. You will further learn to understand the challenges that come along when pursuing your heart’s desire as a man made of flesh and blood. I have also added some Bible verses about the desires of your hearts.
You can’t only dream, plan, work hard and do everything alone with your energy and think it will surely fulfill your thirst for success or happiness. Who promised you that? Tomorrow isn’t yours! The most important thing here is missing —God shouldn’t be sidelined. Because with Him all things are possible.
The Concept Of A Loving Father
If God cares so much about His children, then truly He wouldn’t hold anything good from them —He gave out His Only-begotten Son to come and pay the price of your sins. Yes, He did it. What other good things in your heart that He wouldn’t bring to fruition.
There might be some reasons beyond your human understanding if you desire of having something —that isn’t coming through. God doesn’t answer all our prayers. In the same way, He wouldn’t grant all your heart desires for reasons best known to Him.
The scripture stated that our ways are not His ways, nor our thoughts His thoughts. But it is very necessary to trust Him believing He has good things to make you happy.
Jesus drew our minds to how God is willing to fulfill the desires of our hearts by saying.
“Is there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:9 – 11)
God isn’t like the father who granted the desires of his child’s hearts and finally regretted it: There was a certain man who got pressured by his son to buy him a new bicycle. Initially, he felt reluctant but the kid insisted on his dire needs.
Finally, the father bought the bicycle. Oh, what joy for his son to lay hands on a fresh and beautiful bike.
Sadly, in about two weeks, the kid rode the bicycle to town, and a car run over him. He died. The father felt broken-hearted and blamed himself; he took the responsibility for his son’s death and learned his lesson.
God knows what is good and what the future holds. He might not grant every good desire of your heart because He knows best. Is this too hard for you to grab? Stay calm and never feel disappointed if God is in control.
What Do Desires Of Your Heart Mean?
The Bible talks about this in Psalms 34:7 which means all believers should expect true happiness from God if they abide in Him. Any godly man never indulges a desire that cannot be used in commuting to God in prayer.
What Are Some Desires Of Your Heart Examples?
We can think of several examples of the desire of a man’s heart. This will range from physical to spiritual needs. The flesh desires to feel good in respect to God’s purpose and glory. This applies to our spiritual needs as well. King Solomon desired wisdom and God gave it to him. May we therefore, learn to be specific about our prayer needs.
1. Marriage Spouse
When talking about marriage —a man desires to find a beautiful and virtuous woman. On the other hand, a woman desires to find a godly man who is hard working and possesses some physical qualities.
These desires of our human nature differ from each other. Because we come in different sizes, shapes, heights, and colors. These are some of the realities of life the Christian fraternity can’t ignore when talking about our heart desires in the opposite sex.
How would a couple be good lovers if they are not physically attracted to each other? If there is no genuine affection, then one might be faking his/her love which might bring about a lot of complications.
Marriage is a covenant that takes a lifetime, so never tie the knot if you have no desire for it. Unless maybe there is something exceptional leading to the Lord’s purpose.
God says He will give you your heart’s desire. So what kind of prayer description about your future spouse are you giving to God?
To a larger extent, God also gives us joy by gifting married couples children. Someone might desire to have a female child at a point in time, another might want to have a baby boy and they end up having their desires or wants fulfilled.
It is necessary to take these desires to God through prayers and stay faithful because He is perfect and all good gifts come from above.
2. Your Job
If you are scouting for a job like an ant-scout searching for a food source for her colony, then you must take it to God in prayer. You might want to be an engineer, doctor, pastor, teacher, etc or whatever work plan is in your heart should be given to God.
The Lord cares, He loves to see you work and earn from your hard labor. Don’t make the mistake of praying and praying without taking any effort in applying for the job. Apply and pray for God’s divine favor because God isn’t going to write the letter for you.
Imagine the ecstasy of joy that will move through your heart when your prayers about a new job are answered. The Lord has done this for many and He is still doing it for people.
3. Success And Happiness
Fear, failure, setbacks, and such likes are some of the weapons of the devil. Satan and his angels fight relentlessly to destroy the future of anyone who believes in Christ Jesus. He can attack your health, job, marriage, and anything that leads to a successful future.
The Lord plans to give you a happy future and more importantly an eternal life void of affliction or infirmity of any kind.
Surely, you desire to be fruitful in life. It takes the power, favor, and grace of God to achieve success and happiness as a Christian.
If you desire to reach a higher height and be a blessing to others; then pray and ask God to show you the right path and give you a successful future.
“Ask the Lord to bless your plans, and you will be successful in carrying them out.” (Proverbs 16:3)
Our God works in a way we might sometimes not understand. He is not a genie to fulfill your wishes. He knows how, what and when to grant your heart’s desires.
The book of Psalms 37 teaches us valuable lessons about success and happiness. These scriptures also reminded us of the difference between the wealth of wicked people and that of godly people.
It might be tempting for many Christians when they see the wicked prosper in almost everything. You are reminded not to envy them. The prosperity of worthless people will be short-lived, but the faithfulness of the children of God will be rewarded. Believers shouldn’t, therefore, become restless, impatient, or bewildered when they see the wicked prosper.
It’s been a big question for many Christians… why their godly heart desires are not coming through but the ungodly seem to be stable and successful in life.
Remember, any wealth acquired through ungodly ways will perish with consequences and repercussions.
“Rejoice, young man, while you are young, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Follow the impulses of your heart and the desires of your eyes, but know that God will judge your motives and actions.” (Ecclesiastes 11:9)
What To Do When Your Heart Desires Are Not Coming Through?
The only thing you can do when your heart’s desires are seeming far from reality is to keep on trusting God. He is the very person who made you and the universe. Stay faithful without letting fear, doubt, or any of the crafty devices of the devil demoralize you to lose your faith.
Again, bear in mind that you can’t tailor your needs to God’s will. He is bigger than you could ever imagine. Stay calm and watch Him.
Job felt abandoned and crushed to the ground when affliction struck him but he never lost his faith in God or accused Him in any way.
“My days have passed, my plans are shattered, even the desires of my heart.” (Job 17:11)
In the long run and at the right time God healed his broken heart and restored to him everything he had lost in double fold. It is all about faith meeting God’s will and perfect timing.
Warning Against Wrongful Desires
In the book of Romans 1:18 – 32, God condemned the sinful living of the gentile world. They conceived sinful thoughts in their minds and harbored wrongful desires in their hearts.
“Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor their bodies among themselves.” (Romans 1:24)
It’s a warning to anyone who neglects the Holy Word of God and lives carnal lives. God will surely punish anyone whose heart is full of sinful desires. The Bible further reminded us that it is what comes out of the hearts that make us sin.
If that is the case, then all conscious sin comes from the heart and they are punishable by God. Those people are worthy of death. (Romans 1:32)
If you pursue the sinful desires in your heart, God will punish you; you would drive the Holy Spirit away and be a puppet to the devil.
