Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. James 4:8-10
Draw near to Him, and He will draw near to you. One of the most uplifting words from the scriptures in moments of being down by sin and confusion. At a glance, it seems that the words in James 4:8-10 as an expression of anguish and rebuke, but if we look at it deeper, it is ultimately a gentle call that the Lord is near to us, to the broken, to the lost, to the confuse and to the fallen, when we come in humility and surrender before Him. And when we do, expect the consoling love of God, and let that great and beautiful love of Him uplift you. In Jesus’ name, there is forgiveness, healing, and revival. Just draw near to Him, and He is faithful to draw near to you.
Often, when we see ourselves defeated by sin, overwhelmed by circumstances, and looping in confusion, our response is to wander away because of the voice of an accuser and condemner. But here, the Lord encourages us to just draw near to Him, and He will restore and uplift you. Today, if you are that person feeling this way, may you be encouraged to instead of isolation and going away, in humility and surrender, just draw near to the Lord in Jesus, and He will take care of the rest.
