“13 I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.” PSALM 27:13-14
It would take approximately 28 days for an egg to transform into a beautiful butterfly. It takes months to produce fruit from a tree that came from a seed. It takes a baby to be an adult. You see, waiting is part of life. It calls us to sacrifice something good to gain something better. If not, the best. Waiting is painful, but it’s guaranteed to be rewarding. It’s not always comfortable, but it is necessary.
David wrote most of the psalms during his hardest and weakest days. It was in those times that he held on to God more. David said that he would have given up if it wasn’t for the goodness of God. David has shown a remarkable character wherein he persistently waited on the Lord as he rested in His goodness and promises. He knew who God was. And that is what brought victory to him. That even in despair, he found peace in the arms of the Father, who never failed to become good and faithful.
God uses waiting to develop our character to help us be what He intends us to be. But the cost of transformation involves pain and suffering. It also involves countless disappointments. However, it will always prepare us for the next chapter of our lives. Just like David, he had to go through what he had to go through to become a King.
Not waiting on God will cost you time, disappointment, people, and even fortune. Yes, you may still have a good life. But if doing things in Your way means letting go of what God has planned for you, then you might miss out on God’s best for your life. So have courage and rely on His strength, not your own, so you may be able to see and witness what He has always promised you. It pays to wait because the reward is God Himself— a life with Him.
