You may feel like you have everything figured out, but sometimes life gives you lemons and you have no idea how to make lemonades out of them. This is why no matter how sure we are of ourselves, it is still important to live our lives according to the purpose God has in store for us.
When you yield to the Lord, you are giving up your own way and agendas in order to submit to Him. It’s an act of humility and obedience that allows God to work through you in greater ways then you could have ever asked or imagined. We are surrendering our control and allowing Him to be the author of our story.
However, this doesn’t mean that you should give up your own desires and preferences. Rather, it means being open to the Lord’s will for your life. It can be difficult to trust that He knows what’s best for us, but when we offer our hearts and intentions to Him, He will always lead us in the right direction.
If you’re uncertain whether God should be your compass, read these bible verses:
Romans 12:1-2 NIV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.
2 Timothy 2:15 NIV
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
James 3:17 NIV
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
Luke 12:15 NIV
Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
James 5:16 NIV
Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
1 John 1:9 NIV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
