In its simplest form, the answer is love. God created us out of love. Love is an intrinsic aspect of God’s nature, as stated in 1 John 4:8, and is characterized by mutual exchange. The Bible says we are made in God’s image (Gen. 1:31), meaning we were designed to both receive and express love. Therefore, God’s purpose in creating us was to establish a loving relationship, wherein He desires to deeply love us and also teaches us to reciprocate that love towards Him and others.
A parallel can be drawn to the desire of parents to have a child. They long for a child to love, someone who bears their likeness, their own flesh and blood, whom they can call “my child.” When we refer to God as our heavenly Father, the term “Father” inherently implies a relationship with a child. This bond is unbreakable and eternal.

God reveals his glory using sin as the backdrop. The varied wisdom of God becomes obvious against the backdrop of sin. By sin we see his mercy, grace, love, patience, and other like qualities. But we also see his sovereignty, goodness and virtue in punishing sin. God is good because he punishes sin.
But because God is good, he cannot overlook sin. He would be bad for not punishing it. In this, God remained good but revealed his justice, love and mercy by taking our punishment for sin on himself in Jesus Christ on the cross. He in his mercy saved as many as his purpose would allow.”
